DO GHOSTS CRY?
(:
Around this time in 2015, you will see a 16 year old girl preparing to attend her JAMB tutorials. She will have four half-braided piece of hair on both sides of her head causing it to look something like a mohawk. She would have washed her unisex foot wear for it was always dirty because of the harmattan wind, the footwear was the only one that made her look like a boy. She was a tomboy but the one who never wears trousers. She would talk the talk and walk the walk- like a boy. Right now, she would have ran across the street of her house to a nearby provision store to get two gala and a bottle of Nutri-milk. When she returns home, she would stuff it in her bag and bid her parents farewell. She would flag down a motorcycle that will take her down to her place of study. She always left home early just so she would sit at the back of the class, next to her two male friends who were SS3 students. Duncan and Truth, yes, that was what she thought first, who would name their child "Truth" but she didn't mind, she loved uncommon names. Even though she had already sat for her final exam months earlier, she still enjoyed the company of those two secondary students.
She was vocal in class mostly when they where being taught the reproductive system in Biology. She was bold yet lacked a little self confidence, she had a crush on the younger brother of a guy who used to attend her school and was two classes ahead of her. He didn't see her when they were school mates, she wasn't usually seen by people but years after, Kelvin sent flowers to her to her DM but his younger brother, Stephen who attended the same tutorials as herself didn't notice her for the sake of life. In end it turned out to be that even though two blood brothers were unsure of her existence at a point in time, later on, one of them, the elder one, sent flowers to her DM years later and that was all that mattered.
In biology class, with a total attendance of over 50 young boys and girls, she stood up to ask the most hilarious question she had asked "Excuse me Sir, If a woman swallowed a man's sperm would she get pregnant?" The class roared in laughter, she too did.
She was a girl who was unsure of what the future held but she never gave up still. She wrote, it was something she enjoyed doing but she was doing it the wrong way. She killed people with the stroke of her pen on her notebooks she had no one to guide her, she was a sheep without a shepherd.
She remembers the first week of February, 2016 as her last days attending the tutorials. Nothing seemed out of place for her, she followed the same routine, did nothing significant that was worthy to be remembered. She remembers walking down the road on her way home and how she couldn't take her eyes of mannequins that were clad in white and red apparel. It was a beautiful sight, she could smell Valentine in the air like fried dodo from her neighbors house.
Days after, she was all set and ready to go to tutorials. She went ahead to met her father for Transport fare when he blatantly told her that she wouldn't be attending classes anymore. It felt as though an arrow was shot right through her chest only that it wasn't by cupid, it was by her father. She didn't get to say goodbye to the new found friends she had made there, she thought about how they'll look for her and how they'd not see her like a needle lost in a hay sack. She didn't at least get the chance to right her wrongs even if there was no right to wrong. She cried for days and she wondered if ghosts cried too. If they cried because their lives where cut short too early and never had the chance to say goodbye.
She was only able to get in touch with a few of her friends two years later. They told her about how they looked for her and how they had missed her. She didn't drop a phone number because she didn't have a phone at that time and no one knew her house address and up until this day, she still disappears from the lives of the ones most dear to her without warning. Do not hate her when she does it to you, for she is only learning how to be a ghost.
